Early 2012 : The Nigerian Classifieds market already buzzing with new products, new features and new entrants.

Early 2012 and the Classifieds market is already buzzing with new entrants, products and features. No doubt, Dealfish is the "numero uno" in this market with its debut in November 2010, but the new entrants are coming in with products and features to entice the market.

Just this year alone, while Dealfish introduced its much awaited new User Interface with enhanced features, Google Trader has come out with two new features. The first one was Google Trader’s new look on mobile which was launched in January 2012. It has now launched another feature which allows you to be yourself on Google Trader. This new Google Trader feature is about a new way to use Google+ on Google Trader.
Google Trader

When you log into “My Listings” on Google Trader, you can then add some more information about yourself to complete your Trader profile. People will be able to see your real name and photo from Google+, together with your listings, and they’ll be able to visit your profile to find more about you before they contact you. However, using a profile on Trader is completely optional. If you prefer, your listings can remain anonymous on Trader, as they have been in the past.

This new feature reminds me of Facebook Marketplace powered by Oodle marketplace.

Another new feature introduced into the Nigerian market is from Jobberman, the jobs vertical. Jobberman’s
Jobberman Premium Alert

Premium Alerts is an email job alerts service that brings you the latest vacancies that fit only your experience, background, location, and field of study before anyone else, thus increasing your chances of getting a job. PREMIUM helps you be the first to know and apply for latest job opportunities, giving you a higher chance of being selected before everyone else who gets the regular alerts. And it comes to you twice every day once jobs that fit your profile are posted, unlike REGULAR alerts that come to you only twice a week with general jobs. Though nice, this service is not free. You either pay N1500 (approx. $10) per quarter or N3000 (approx. $20) per annum.

I wonder what new feature will be next. What would we expect from Tradestable (Schibsted)?

Or it may be new entrants like PrivatePropertySA or Cheki. PrivateProperty SA snuck into the Nigerian market by of its merger with a local Property classifieds company, Propertiesng.com late last year to create create a new company named PrivateProperty.com.ng. PrivateProperty SA is known to be one of the biggest property classifieds entity in South Africa and it aims to be the number 1 in the Property Vertical classifieds market in Nigeria where there is seemingly no main competitor. Cheki African Media also launched its Nigerian business, Cheki.com.ng late last year after seemingly dominating the Kenyan Cars Vertical Classified market. It hopes to do the same also in Nigeria. Cheki Africa Media is associated with a portfolio of successful online businesses and brands in West and East Africa such as Jobberman, BrighterMonday.

It is truly getting exciting....
