I got to know about Eventbrite in 2011 when I got an invite for a Mobile Monday event in Lagos, Nigeria. I was impressed that a site like this was actually available to Nigerians for free.
Since then I have been using the site for promoting events but it is actually more than an event promotion site. According to Eventbrite,
"At Eventbrite, we believe that gathering with others is the best way for people to learn, grow, get inspired, feel connected, get healthy, give back, and celebrate. So we're building technology that facilitates those gatherings, by helping people find and attend events that feed their interests, while connecting them with others who share their passions. When we indulge our curiosity, events can transform us and make us better. We want everyone to join us in creating a world where we are encouraged to get out there and try new things, indulge in the things we love, and to express ourselves, improve ourselves and build our communities. We are here to bring people together".

Eventbrite helps to promote events, whether free or paid; help to sell tickets online, and assist in event management.
Some of its 2012 stats show that it is really doing well.
- Total gross ticket sales in 2012: $600 million
- Number of tickets sold in 2012: 36 million
- Number of languages Eventbrite supports: 7
- Countries where events were held in 2012: 179
- Countries where we offer a localized product: 14
- Number of Britelings (Eventbrite employees): 211
- Number of poker world champions in our ranks: 1
- Dollars raised at fundraising events throughout 2012: $59 million
- Tickets scanned with Entry Manager in 2012: 3.16 million
- Number of pints recorded by the office kegbot: 495

It is based in USA but available online globally. The only sites that are close to this site in Nigeria are Towry-Coker's Afritickets and Kilonshele (now defunct).
Event Ticketing and Event promotion is an underserved area in eBusiness in Nigeria even with the number of social events, weddings, Christian events, Corporate gatherings. It is an opportunity that can be exploited by serious players.
